Blue Jays Winter Tour

The highly anticipated 2014 Winter Tour, presented by TD, took to the road in early January, visiting communities across Ontario in an effort to bring baseball to Blue Jays fans.

After a stop in Oshawa, the tour headed eastbound on the 401 to Kingston, where Blue Jays Josh Thole, Anthony Gose, Adam Lind, Steve Delabar and Manager John Gibbons paid a special visit to both CFB Kingston and the Boys and Girls Club of Kingston & Area. While at the Boys and Girls Club, Jays Care Foundation officially launched the first new Rookie League program of 2014, which will reach 160 children and youth in the Kingston area. Jays Care also left behind baseball equipment which will be available to all 2,100 children and youth club members in order to increase their daily physical activity levels – furthering the Blue Jays commitment to provide all children access to sport.

Back home in Toronto, the Winter Tour stopped at Ronald McDonald House Toronto, which seeks to provide a home away from home for seriously ill children and their families to heal better together. Blue Jays players, coaches, management and Jays Care Community Crew members spent the afternoon cooking dinner for residents of the house as part of the Home for Dinner Program. Residents were given the chance to get some autographs and were served dinner by Blue Jays players and coaches.

In London, a fresh batch of Blue Jays joined the second leg of the Winter Tour to make a stop at Sir Isaac Brock Elementary School. Brandon Morrow, Esmil Rogers, Dustin McGowan and Todd Redmond joined staff and students in the gymnasium to answer questions and talk about the importance of staying active, eating healthy and setting goals. The Blue Jays left baseball equipment – including bats, gloves and baseballs - for the students.

Before leaving London, the Blue Jays hosted a baseball clinic for 30 local children at Centre Field Sports Training Facility. Participants were led through hitting, fielding and pitching drills by Blue Jays Brandon Morrow, Esmil Rogers, Colby Rasmus, Dustin McGowan and Todd Redmond, as well as Hall of Famer and Blue Jays alumni Roberto Alomar.

"I think the tour really exceeded expectations. It's my first [Winter Tour] and I was fortunate enough to get a chance to give back to the communities and the small towns and the people that support us." – Josh Thole
