On Wednesday, June 10, the Toronto Blue Jays hosted Swing into Summer Safety Day at the ballpark to kick off the 2015 campaign. The Swing into Summer Safety program is run annually in association with the Ontario Public Fire Safety Council and the Toronto Blue Jays organization. Swing into Summer Safety brings awareness of fire and water safety to kids all across Ontario.
Fire safety cards were distributed to the first 25,000 fans at the ballpark on June 10, with an additional 100,000 sets distributed at Fire Halls throughout Ontario. These cards aim to educate kids about the importance fire safety.
Toronto Blue Jays pitchers Mark Buehrle and Brett Cecil, were the Blue Jays Honorary Fire Chiefs for the 2015 season. As part of their roll, the pitchers were featured in PSA's promoting fire safety, and also paid a visit to the Burn Unit at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto where they visited with patients.
In recognition of the outstanding contribution this campaign made towards fire safety in the community and in the province of Ontario, the Blue Jays were awarded the Fire Marshal's Public Fire Safety Council's Fire Safety Award.
