Paul was appointed President and Chief Executive Officer of the Toronto Blue Jays in 2009. He became the first employee of the Toronto Blue Jays on May 10, 1976 and held the positions of Vice-President of Business Operations in 1977, Executive Vice-President, Business in 1984, President and Chief Operating officer in 1989 and Chief Executive Officer in 1991.

From 1997 until 2002, Paul served as President and Chief Operating Officer of Major League Baseball. He was awarded an honourary Doctor of Laws degree from the University of Western Ontario in 1994 and, in 2001, an Honourary Doctor of Social Sciences from Niagara University in Niagara Falls, New York.

In 1994, Paul earned the distinction of Canadian Baseball Man of the Year and was appointed as a Member of the Order of Canada in 1998. Paul was inducted in to the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame in 2002 and the Canada's Sports Hall of Fame in 2006.

He sits on the Board of Directors of Loblaw Companies Limited, President's Choice Bank, President's Choice Services Inc., Gluskin Sheff & Associates Inc. and the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health Foundation. He is also a member of the Board of Trustees of the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York.
