Birds spoil rookie's debut

Kris Benson pitched solidly for seven innings, allowing only two runs on three hits with three walks and four strikeouts to defeat Toronto. The O's scored in each of the first two innings and broke it open with a four-run seventh. Ramon Hernandez and Corey Patterson each had two RBIs.

Rookie Casey Janssen made his Major League debut, allowing three runs -- two earned -- on three hits and three walks as the Jays fell to the O's. The Blue Jays scored two runs in the second on RBIs by Gregg Zaun and Russ Adams, but those runs were not enough for Toronto.
