With the Rangers claiming the catcher off waivers from the Blue Jays on Wednesday, Whiteside has now been claimed by three clubs since the end of the season.
The Blue Jays snatched the 33-year-old from the Yankees on Dec. 3. New York had acquired him from San Francisco a month earlier.
Whiteside spent the majority of the 2012 campaign playing for the Giants' Triple-A affiliate in Fresno, where he batted .224 with one home run and 20 RBIs. He collected 11 big league at-bats in 12 contests and notched one hit.
Over 208 career games in the Majors, he has a .215 batting average and 10 homers. Baltimore selected him in the sixth round of the 2001 First-Year Player Draft.
The Blue Jays are now carrying four catchers on their 40-man roster: J.P. Arencibia, John Buck, Travis d'Arnaud and A.J. Jimenez.
