Balky back has Lawrie questionable for Sunday
By Rowan Kavner / MLB.com
Lawrie, who roped a single for the Blue Jays' only hit through the first five innings, said his back was tight from the beginning of the game and tightened up throughout the rest of the contest.
"It's just one spot on my back is kind of tight," Lawrie said. "I figured the best thing I could do was get out of there and not make it worse."
Lawrie is hitting .324 with one home run in his last eight games and is 7-for-21 against the White Sox this season. He said he expects to play on Sunday, but has to see how he feels in the morning.
Manager John Farrell, who noticed Lawrie's backaches late in the game, said he's not sure if the third baseman will play or not.
"He had some low back spasms, some tightness prior to his last at-bat and we got him off his feet, precautionary," Farrell said. "We'll take a look and check him in the morning."
Farrell noted fatigue might be setting into a Blue Jays team that has lost three straight entering Sunday, though Lawrie said he didn't think that was the case.
