d'Arnaud sustained the injury while playing for Team USA at the 2011 Baseball World Cup in Panama. He returned to Phoenix to undergo further examination, and his surgery was eventually performed by Dr. Donald Sheridan.
The 22-year-old d'Arnaud earned Most Valuable Player honors in the Eastern League this year, following an impressive campaign in which he hit .311 with 21 home runs and 78 RBIs for Double-A New Hampshire. d'Arnaud also posted a .914 OPS and 33 doubles in 114 games.
d'Arnaud was acquired by the Blue Jays in 2009 as part of the package for No. 1 starter Roy Halladay. He is currently ranked as the Blue Jays' top prospect according to MLB.com.
It was the second consecutive year that ended with an injury for d'Arnaud. In 2010, d'Arnaud's season with Class A Dunedin was cut short after 71 games because of a lower-back ailment.
