Emaus enjoying fall trip to Hawaii
Blue Jays prospect off to strong start with the Honolulu Sharks
By Jordan Bastian / MLB.com
Lately, Emaus has been wearing out pitching for the Honolulu Sharks, helping the club to an 11-4 record and into the top spot in the East division of Hawaii Winter Baseball. Even after missing three games earlier this week, Emaus has been one of the statistical standouts among all the prospects in Hawaii.
Through 10 games for Honolulu, the 22-year-old Emaus -- a second baseman out of Tulane University -- has hit .367 (11-for-30) with one double, one triple, one home run and seven RBIs. Emaus has drawn eight walks and has no strikeouts, showing strong plate discipline for the Sharks.
As of Thursday, Emaus ranked first in the league with a .525 on-base percentage, second with his .367 average, third with a 1.092 OPS (on-base plus slugging percentage) and fifth overall with a .567 slugging percentage. Among players with at least two walks, Emaus was the only one without a strikeout.
That showing stays true to his performance this season with Class A Dunedin in the Florida State League. With Dunedin, Emaus had more walks (60) than strikeouts (56) and finished with a .380 on-base percentage in 124 games. Along the way, Emaus -- an 11th-round pick in the 2007 First-Year Player Draft -- hit .302 with 12 homers and 71 RBIs.
