The Toronto Blue Jays have exercised the contract option on catcher Rod Barajas for the 2009 season.
Barajas, 33, appeared in 104 games for the Blue Jays last season, posting a .249 batting average with 23 doubles, 11 home runs and 49 RBI. The Ontario, California native threw out 17 of 59 potential base stealers in 2008, for a 28.8% success rate and is now 28.9% for his career. The veteran of 10 seasons (Arizona 1999-2003, Texas 2004-06, Philadelphia 2007 and Toronto 2008) is a career .241 hitter, with 73 home runs and 284 RBI.
