The New York Mets host their annual Summer Blood Drive in partnership with the New York Blood Center on Monday, June 23 from 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Mr. Met will make an appearance at 10:30 a.m. The event will take place at the Caesars Club in Citi Field, Hodges VIP entrance.

Since 2009, the Mets blood drives at Citi Field have produced more than 4,900 pints of blood. The Mets will honor the fan who donates the 5,000th pint of blood with the opportunity to watch batting practice from the field, VIP tickets, and a team-signed jersey.

Fans donating blood will receive a voucher for a pair of tickets to a select 2014 Mets home game in September. In addition, donors will receive a voucher redeemable for 15% off regularly priced merchandise at the Mets Team Store at Citi Field. Season Ticket Holders who give blood can show their voucher and ID card to get 20% off regularly priced items. The discount will only be honored Monday, June 23.

The blood donation process takes less than an hour, and a single donation can be used to save multiple lives. Donors with O-negative blood type, or "universal donors," are encouraged to attend, as their blood can be transfused into anyone in a trauma situation.

It is estimated that blood donations decrease by nearly 50% during the summer season. Therefore, the Mets and New York Blood Center are teaming up to make sure that there is ample blood supply though the early summer.
