Transport Canada approved the Blue Jays' travel plans for the final two road trips of the season on Wednesday, according to The Toronto Star.The Blue Jays, who start a four-game series in Detroit on Friday, changed the destination of one flight to comply with newly enforced rules concerning charter airlines.
In August, the U.S. Department of Transportation stepped up enforcement of a rule that prohibits foreign charter carriers from making domestic flights between American cities, and Canada responded by enforcing the rules on the U.S., too.
The Blue Jays, which fly with Miami Air International, had intended to fly to Windsor, Ontario, before crossing the border by bus. But since they were unable to use an American carrier for a domestic flight in Canada, they changed their destination to Detroit and were granted approval, according to The Star.
"We're fine," the team's traveling manager, Mike Shaw, told the newspaper. "All good for the rest of the season."
After finishing up with the Tigers, the Blue Jays wrap up a nine-game road trip with stops in New York and Tampa Bay. They'll then conclude the season by going on the road against the Red Sox and Orioles from Sept. 28-Oct. 4.
