Hill exits contest as wife goes into labor

Second baseman heads to Florida to be with family

09/07/09 5:07 PM ET

TORONTO -- All-Star second baseman Aaron Hill had a single and a walk against the Minnesota Twins on Monday before leaving the game, an eventual 6-3 Blue Jays loss, in the fourth inning to go home to Palm Harbor, Fla., where his wife, Elizabeth, had gone into labor.

"It's great for him and Liz," Jays manager Cito Gaston said. "He's really excited. A little nervous, too. I don't blame him for that. I hope everything goes well for them. We're not going to worry about him getting back here, just hope that the baby's fine and she's fine, too."

Hill is batting .286 with 31 homers and 94 RBIs.
