Veteran catcher eyes fresh start after injury-riddled '08
After laboring through an injury-plagued season in 2008, Michael Barrett is looking to make a fresh start next season with the Blue Jays.
On Monday, the 32-year-old catcher reached agreement with the Blue Jays on a Minor League deal with an invitation to Spring Training, MLB.com has confirmed.
Barrett dealt with an injury to his face last season, when he was struck by a foul ball off his bat. He appeared in 30 games for the Padres and batted .202 with two home runs and nine RBIs in 94 at-bats.
The veteran broke in with the Expos in 1998, and he has appeared in 1,047 games. He is a career .264 hitter with 97 home runs and 422 RBIs. He was with the Cubs from 2004-07, when he was dealt to San Diego.
