Encouraging news for Dodgers
Garciaparra, Kent test ailing parts during workouts
TUCSON, Ariz. -- Back in Phoenix, the Dodgers reported somewhat encouraging news on injured infielders Jeff Kent and Nomar Garciaparra.
Kent, whose lingering strained right hamstring was too tight for him to do any running on Saturday, was able to do light running on the basepaths during Sunday's workout. He remains uncertain for Opening Day.
Garciaparra, healing from a microfracture atop his right hand, was able to resume tossing. He will not swing a bat until he is completely pain-free and is doubtful to be active for Opening Day.
Reliever Joe Beimel reported no further problems after taking a Jason Repko line drive off his glove hand in a Saturday simulated game.
Repko did not make the trip to Tucson and because of sore quads has not played since last Monday.
