Yankees at the plate: Johnny Damon went 2-for-3 with two doubles against Reds starter Aaron Harang. Bobby Abreu's homer to left-center field off Matt Maloney put New York on the scoreboard in the seventh inning. Greg Porter hit a grand slam off Alexander Smit in the eighth inning.
Reds at the plate: It was a six-RBI game for Edwin Encarnacion on Thursday. In the Reds' six-run first inning, Encarnacion hit a two-run single. In the fourth, he hit a grand slam to right-center field for a 10-0 Reds lead. Cincinnati sent 11 men to the plate in the first, with its first five batters reaching base and scoring. Adam Dunn hit an RBI single, while Andy Green hit an RBI double and Norris Hopper added an RBI single.Yankees on the mound: Yankees starter Chien-Ming Wang was roughed up for six earned runs, six hits and two walks, before being pulled after only two-thirds of an inning. Scott Patterson took over and worked 1 1/3 scoreless innings. Kyle Farnsworth walked one and struck out one in his one scoreless inning. Reds on the mound: Harang started and pitched three scoreless innings, giving up two hits and striking out two. Francisco Cordero hurled one scoreless inning with two strikeouts. David Weathers was smooth with an eight-pitch scoreless inning.
