MINNESOTA -- The Twins have chosen a franchise icon to represent them at the 2007 First-Year Player Draft. Tony Oliva, who played all of his 15 seasons in Minnesota and now serves as the Minor League hitting instructor, will announce the club's selections.

"The first thing I was worried about is what I have to wear, because it's on TV and I want to be looking good on TV," Oliva said. "This is the first time, and they're giving me the opportunity to be there and represent the Minnesota Twins. That's a big thing for me. It's going to be nice to be a part of something like that."

Oliva, whose No. 6 is retired in the Metrodome, was a five-tool player who won three batting titles and the 1964 American League Rookie of the Year.

While director of Minor League operations Jim Rantz will be making most of the decisions regarding the draft, Oliva has an idea of what he's looking for in the ideal draftee.

"We hope to get the best guy possible, the one that we need, one who will be able to play in the big leagues in maybe a year or two," Oliva said. "We're going with open eyes, to try to get what we need. We have the best scout system in the world. I know they're doing the best to get what the Minnesota Twins need."
