Hall of Famer join star-studded lineup at 2007 event
Hall of Famer Jim Palmer will represent the Orioles, and join the star-studded lineup of former players who will attend the 2007 First-Year Player Draft. The two-day event will start June 7 at Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex in Lake Buena Vista, Fla., and will be televised for the first time in its 43-year history.
Palmer, the winningest pitcher in Baltimore history, signed a contract with the O's in 1963, two years before the First-Year Player Draft's inception. He will be joined by Scott Proefrock, Baltimore's director of baseball administration. Each club will send several ex-players or officials to represent their teams.
Other notable guests will include Felipe Alou, Steve Blass, Andre Dawson, Dwight Evans, Dallas Green, Ken Griffey, Sr., Willie Horton, Barry Larkin, Tony Oliva, Darryl Strawberry, Walt Weiss, Don Zimmer and Hall-of-Famers Robin Roberts, Tommy Lasorda and Dave Winfield.
ESPN2 will air each club's first-round choice. Clubs will have a maximum of five minutes to make their picks during the first round. Following the pick-by-pick coverage of the initial round, ESPN2's telecast will continue until 6 p.m. ET. After the completion of ESPN2's coverage, the first day of the draft will proceed until about 8:30 p.m. ET. On June 8, the draft will resume at 11:30 a.m. ET., and continue until its conclusion.
