The Toronto Blue Jays have signed outfielder Reed Johnson to a one-year contract worth $1.425 million (US), thus avoiding arbitration.

During the 2005 season, the native of Riverside, California appeared in 142 games, batting .269 with eight home runs and 58 RBI.

Johnson, who celebrates his 29th birthday tomorrow (December 8), has spent three seasons at the Major League level, all with the Blue Jays, batting .277 with 28 home runs and 171 RBI. He was selected by the Club in the 17th round of the June 1999 First Year Player Draft.
