FORT MYERS, Fla. -- It took much longer than expected, but the Blue Jays finally got a look at one of their offseason investments Tuesday. Valerio de los Santos, Toronto's last reliever to get into a game, pitched one scoreless inning in a 5-4 loss to Minnesota.

"I threw pretty good today. I didn't feel tired at all, didn't feel sore anywhere. I felt the way I was looking for," he said. "I feel really happy with every pitch I threw. If i missed, I missed how I wanted to miss. Everything worked out really well."

Now that de los Santos has thrown, Ted Lilly is the only member of Toronto's projected staff who hasn't yet been on the mound. De los Santos was stalled because of some shoulder soreness early in camp, and the Jays used the extra time to try to iron out his mechanics. Gil Patterson, the team's pitching coach, was encouraged by the early returns.
