Blue Jays sign Bautista to long term deal

The TORONTO BLUE JAYS and JOSE BAUTISTA have agreed to a five year contract worth US $64 million commencing in 2011, with a club option for 2016. Terms of the deal are US $8 million in 2011, with subsequent US $14 million salaries in each of 2012-15. The club holds an option of US $14 million for the 2016 season.

BAUTISTA, 30, led Major League Baseball and established a Blue Jays franchise record by hitting 54 home runs in 2010. The 6-0, 195lb. native of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic led the majors with 92 extra base hits and tied for first with 351 total bases, and became just the 4th player in Major League Baseball to record at least 35 doubles, 50 home runs and 100 walks in a season. His spectacular season earned him a Hank Aaron Award in addition to a Silver Slugger Award and a selection to the MLB All-Star Game.
