Blue Jays exercise Barajas option 10/31/2008 1:28 PM ETMLB.com
The Toronto Blue Jays have exercised the contract option on catcher Rod Barajas for the 2009 season. Barajas, 33, appeared in 104 games for the Blue Jays last season, posting a .249 batting average with 23 doubles, 11 home runs and 49 RBI. The Ontario, California native threw out 17 of 59 potential base stealers in 2008, for a 28.8% success rate and is now 28.9% for his career. The veteran of 10 seasons (Arizona 1999-2003, Texas 2004-06, Philadelphia 2007 and Toronto 2008) is a career .241 hitter, with 73 home runs and 284 RBI.
