Something OLD, Something NEW, Something BORROWED and Everything BLUE JAYS!12/03/2007 6:00 PM ET
The TORONTO BLUE JAYS will have two new uniforms in 2008 - something old as we bring back the light blue uniform for Flashback Fridays and something new when we take to the field on the road.
Flashback Fridays have quickly established themselves as a fan favourite at Rogers Centre. Each and every Friday home game the club celebrates the rich Blue Jays baseball history and welcomes back a Blue Jays Alumnus. "Our fans appreciate being able to reconnect with their past heroes and have continually asked us to wear the retro uniforms," noted Blue Jays President and CEO, Paul Godfrey. "We have responded and are proud to honour the strong emotional ties our city, our province and our country have with our franchise and the light blue uniforms."
The light blue uniforms were the Club's initial road uniform, being worn from 1977 until 1989. The 2008 version will resemble the period from 1981 to 1989 when Toronto was displayed across the uniform front.
"This is my favourite uniform. I like the old school vibe! The guys are thrilled with these uniforms. When we were presented with options, we voted to go with the powder blues - I'm glad they listened." -- Vernon Wells, Blue Jays Outfielder
The 2008 road uniform will be a modernized version that borrows on the style of Blue Jays uniforms of the past. Toronto will once again be arched prominently across the uniform front in individual capital letters in a new bold font consisting of blue, black and white on a grey uniform. Also returning to the uniform front will be the player number located on the lower left side of the uniform. The uniform will feature our secondary logo on the left sleeve and number and player name on the back.
"I had a chance to model it (road uniform) in the clubhouse and it caught the attention of everyone in the room. The team is impressed with the uniform and they are excited about the change. They did a great job with these." -- Vernon Wells, Blue Jays Outfielder
